It may not be every day you think about diabetic eye disease, however, now is the perfect time to spread awareness as it’s #NationalDiabetesMonth!
Did you know that the leading cause of vision loss is diabetes? Unfortunately, if you are diagnosed with diabetes it is very common that you will suffer from vision loss or even blindness. Our office can help those with diabetic retinopathy which is a complication with diabetes that causes damage to the blood vessels of the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye (retina).
First and foremost, if you have diabetes, it is important to always go to your annual eye exam with your regular optometrist so that they can watch for diabetic retinopathy.
If diagnosed with diabetic retinopathy, your doctor may refer you to our office or you can also call for your free low vision phone consultation yourself (585-271-7320).
During our calls, Dr. Kornfeld will be able to tell if he can help you or not based on your goals and levels of usable vision. Dr. Kornfeld will then determine whether it makes sense to move forward. At your low vision office appointment, Dr. Kornfeld performs a Feinbloom low vision chart evaluation and you will be matched with fitted bioptic microscope glasses that will improve your vision. You will then have the option to order your own custom prescription glasses. Then Dr. Kornfeld will send the notes to your regular optometrist.
No one likes a new medical diagnosis, but there is more help now than ever so that you can live your fullest life. We are proud to offer solutions so that those with diabetic retinopathy can live powerfully with vision loss.
There is life after vision loss!
